Us. Big People. Grown Ups. Adults. Mature Ones. We don't care what you call us, we are just annoyed that we seem to have been forgotten and, well, we are offended. As soon as I saw the intro to your article in this weekend's Sunday Magazine I felt it. You know, that familiar twinge one experiences when you realise you have been overlooked, forgotten or downright ignored. You claim that our Robward has been cutting his teeth "on a role that melts millions of teenage hearts". Well that, my dear, is where you failed us. We are here too!
Yes, yes, we all know that "Teenagers the world over fell in love with Edward Cullen (the vampire) and Bella Swan (the squeeze)" and the fact that the Twilight Saga lives in the children's section at Borders ensures that this will continue to be the case. But, with a little research Joanne, you would have learned that for every swooning teenage girl out there there is a woman in her 30's that has been bitten by Twilight in a big way. Even you admit that "teenagers can be a fickle bunch" and they, we are sure, will soon outgrow their fascination with Twilight the way we outgrew our obsessive viewing of Top Gun, The Breakfast Club and Pretty In Pink. However, we are all grown up now and are no longer ruled by our flighty teenage fantasies. We have developed qualities like loyalty, committment and devotion and we assure you that when the screaming Teenage fans move onto the next big thing, we will be off finding a quiet corner, reaching into our handbags and pulling out our favourite, well thumbed copy of Twilight to calm the nerves and reassure us that good DOES triumph over evil, Prince Charming DOES exist and that EVERYONE gets to live happily ever after!
